Northvolt is founded with the mission to build the world's greenest battery to enable the European transition to renewable energy. Manufactures lithium ion batteries needed for electric vehicles. Headquarters is in Stockholm, Sweden. As on 2020, they have 500+ employees.

In June 2019, Northvolt completes an equity capital raise of $1 billion for development of Gigafactory Northvolt Ett which is main production site for battery cells, which includes active material preparation, cell assembly, recycling and auxiliaries

In July 2020, Northvolt signs a debt raise of $1.6 billion to support development of production capacity and additional initiatives in recycling and R&D.
